1985 Beetle Copy Day sailer $6,999
This is not a class certified Beetle; but a modified version of the classic with comfortable seating. In 1921, the Beetle family of New Bedford used the techniques they honed building whaling ships to make the Beetle Cat - a friendly, easy to handle boat their children could sail. The distinctive shape and clean lines of the Beetle Cat have changed little over time, and nearly a century later, they are a ubiquitous presence along the New England coast. "Mercedes" was built to be similar to a beetle, but out of fiberglass with a fiberglass hull with mahogany seats. The mast, sails (#5) and rigging are complete and in good condition. Also included is a trailer, only used to move into storage. With a beam of six feet, the broad, tub-like boats are extremely stable, and the gaff-rigging makes it easy for novices and kids to handle. Although not eligible to race in Beetlecat regattas, it is a fine and classic day sailing vessel. Current Owners have decided to part with this vessel which has been part of their family fun for many years with the hopes that a new family can now enjoy her.
